About Healesville & the Yarra Valley

Healesville is famous for its internationally-renowned wildlife sanctuary, home to more than 200 species of Australian native animals where you can experience close encounters with native Australian wildlife like dingos, kangaroos, wombats and platypus. Surrounded by scenic countryside, the town is an important food and wine centre and host to the annual Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival. Year-round, visit local vineyards to sample local wines and talk to their makers at cellar doors.

The Yarra Valley boasts some 55 wineries, some of which are Victoria's earliest vineyards. Numerous wineries provide cellar-door sales & tastings of hand-crafted wines. Pinot noir is the Yarra Valley's most widely planted red grape variety. It is also an exceptional area for chardonnay, shiraz & cabernet sauvignon. Many wineries have restaurants serving gourmet food & fine local produce. Further along, at the foot of the Yarra Ranges National Park, lies the township of Warburton where life has a beguiling habit of moving at little more than walking pace.
