About The Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road takes visitors on one of Australia’s greatest and most inspiring coastal drives. From Torquay near Geelong, to Nelson almost 300 kilometres to the west, the road snakes past cliffs, scenic lookouts, waterfalls, rainforests & sunken ships.

One of the most visited stretches is the Port Campbell National Park, home to native bushland & fauna. Buffeted by wild seas & fierce winds, the coastline has been sculpted over millions of years to form a series of striking natural features such as the Twelve Apostles & London Bridge.

The Great Ocean Road has a rich maritime past. Historic towns such as Port Fairy & Portland allow you to enjoy seafaring village life, with their fishing wharves, old pubs & beautifully preserved colonial buildings. A number of ships from the nineteenth & twentieth centuries have foundered off the rugged shipwreck coast, & their histories are recounted in many of the museums in the region.

Quillsbury, just 2½ hours from Melbourne, offers classic bed and breakfast accommodation in an historic (circa 1916 ) Edwardian dwelling known as “Heytesbury House”. It is a 30 minute drive from Cobden through rural dairy farming countryside to the Twelve Apostles and the Great Ocean Road.

Quillsbury is ideally located for exploring the whole Great Ocean Road region - the rainforest and waterfalls of the Otway Ranges, Southern Right Whales in Warrnambool (July-October), the unusual rock formations of the Grampians, and extinct volcanic lakes and craters in nearby Camperdown.

The elegant style, decor and amenity of this restored Edwardian home, once the Cobden Hospital, is set in a delightful English Garden. The formal dining room is the ideal setting to experience a gourmet breakfast, either by the open fire or on the verandah in summer.

Valerie and Jon invite you to experience the warm hospitality and personal service that awaits you at Quillsbury and to enjoy their accommodation while you explore the Great Ocean Road.
