About Warrnambool

The only city on the rugged Shipwreck Coast, Warrnambool has had a long and colourful history linked with the sea. Today much of this history is on show at the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. With original buildings, lighthouse and a recreated port complete with ships, the museum provides a fascinating insight into the nineteenth century life of the city. There are many shipwreck relics on display including the famous porcelain peacock washed up from the tragic wreck of the Loch Ard in 1878.

Warrnambool is known as Victoria’s southern right whale nursery – these giants return to Logans Beach every June to September and can often be seen just 100 metres off the shore.

Quamby Homestead at Woolsthorpe, a short drive from the Great Ocean Road and the bustling seaport at Warrnambool, offers the opportunity to soak up some history whilst enjoying excellent accommodation in the serenity of a 3-acre garden setting.

Scattered throughout the garden, the accommodation includes the standard Mews Rooms and the original School and Carriage Houses. The Carriage House has two bedrooms (with king and single beds), bathroom, large living area, kitchen and delightful private terrace garden.

The School House, where the Lindsay children were once educated, now boasts a queen-size bed and bathroom with views over the dam. The five Mews Rooms have queen-size beds and en-suites and are surrounded by attractive gardens. Dinner and breakfast are served in the homestead dining room by a wood fire in winter, or on a shady verandah in the summer months.

Quamby's superb gardens are the main feature of the property. Soak up the ambience, relax and enjoy, or spot kangaroo, echidna, possums, and study the historic plantings in a relaxed, private atmosphere.

Quamby Homestead is an ideal accommodation break, as it is situated between the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians, and just 20 minutes' drive from Warrnambool. Stop to draw a breath or explore the unique southern coastline.
