About Heathcote

Heathcote is Australia's Shiraz capital and it boasts the southern hemishere's longest main street. Wineries are within an easy drive of Emeu Inn, so get your tasting glass ready!

A walk along the main street (High Street) is a must. There are interesting shops with food, oldwares, clothes, antiques, art galleries, tasting rooms and other treasures. You can stop by one of the local pubs for a beer, or wander through the Valley of Liquid Ambers. The old goal and powder magazine are interesting stops as is the Pink Cliffs.

Surrounded by State and National forests, keen bush walkers will enjoy the local parks

Emeu Inn's Fine Dining
"From a solid European training background, and work as a chef in formal restaurants in Germany and South Africa, to a former pub in a small Victorian town and an interest in bush-tucker , Emeu Inn chef and co-owner Fred Thies has travelled far."

"In a dining room with pale blue walls, lace curtains and timber chairs, his guests enjoy robust dishes that recall his European origins and others that reflect his interest in native Australian ingredients. Bush tomatoes add piquancy to his spicy fresh tomato soup, while the signature dish of Emu is braised in native pepperleaf sauce."

"Memories are made of dishes such as Mama's Eintopf and Venison Cutlets of organic blueberries and red cabbage braised with apple. His German gooseberry meringue tart is not to be missed." ...Age Good Food Guide 2000.
